Nevertheless, however good a C1 may be, I have noticed that it has not single handedly made higher priced mics obsolete. I have not noticed any articles where someone said they trashed or sold or laid to rest their Soundelux or Neuman. So I am wondering, where is the cut-off. I mean to say, have we reached the day and age where spending $2,000.00 on a preamp or mic is merely a matter of ego and has no practical meaning.

Phil,

Studio Projects was not supposed to make high end mics obsolete. The question is, what works for you. If you can afford expensive gear, and can justify the price vs. the performance issue, then by all means do what suits you best.

There are lots of good mics out on the market, both expensive and very affordable. As Harvey said, I think it is more about the music, the vocalist, and talent's of the engineer that make a track happen. High end gear may very well be better, and that may be able to be established on a vocal track in a direct side by side comparison, or even an acoustic track if you will. I guess the question is, what happens after that track has been mixed, sent to the mastering house, and finally stamped out. Will you hear any of those subtle differences you did from the solo vocal tracks?

Well, I am not so sure that you will. If you use a good mic that works for the vocalist, it does not have to be $3,000.00. But Studio Projects, or any other good budget microphone will never knock out the high end mics in the high end studios. Budget mics can be very good, and in some cases work better than an expensive mic, but the idea of budget mics is to expand your locker with more flavors.

Harvey and Alan:
Thanks for your thoughts - right on target!
the gentlemen that said "FUN"....
Even more on target....
I do believe all of us got into this because it was FUN...

Well, I started out as a singer/guitarplayer/songwriter, but not because it was fun; it was to "get laid".

Which is in some way NOT fun? :D

Don't sweat it Chris, C-rock is just being C-Rock. He is a good promoter of other brands on every SP thread, or at the end of every positive comment someone may make on SP. His colors come through loud and clear... No worries mate!

I love the way you say "mate" to our Australian friends in the same geekified way parents say things like "dude," "chill," and "dope" to their teenagers in order to appear more hip. :D

Alan, you are even more clueless than I thought. Click here and go down about three posts:

Gee, that looks like a recommendation for one of your mics. And I actually like what I've heard from it. I might even buy one, despite the fact that the company's owner is clueless and has no idea who is and who isn't on his side . . . and it's obvious he's color blind :D

Chessrock,

Thanks for enlightening me about those other mics. As usual, you have managed to be consistently predictable in your apparent interpretation of things.

Alan,

Considering Chess thinks you are my "Gay Lover" (his words, not mine), I guess it's ok for you to call me "mate".

BTW, does anyone know the actual origins of the word "dude"?

Dot, how do I know if I'm suffering from "Tube Insanity?"

I'm willing to make that diagnosis right now. You also have a terminal case of SPAM hypochondria.

WGARA!:)

More like Spam fatigue. There you go again with that damn smiley at the end of your WGARA. What have I been saying about smileys? I think I've got smiley phobia now, too. And with all of aus' talk about mates, I think I'm developing yet another phobia from spending too much time on this board. :D

Aaarrrgghhh! There I go again with the smiley.

This just proves all my points about you Chess Rock! Your a very good name caller!

Actually, this is the first time you've said that about me. Usually, you say I'm a Studio-Projects naysayer . . . but I just proved you wrong on that point, so now you have to make up another point. This time about me being a name-caller. Well, fine then. That one I guess suits me and I stand guilty of. You are indeed a peabrained halfwit and I am indeed a name-caller.

At least we agree on something now besides our sandy vaginas.

It's probably just me, but I find this kind of posting particularly rude and offensive - from both of you, and it contributes nothing to the topic.

Now, I know you two are never gonna get along, but can't both of you at least agree to ignore each other's postings?

I'm really serious about this - it really disturbs me to see this kind of behaviour in this forum. If you can't do something constructive to stop this constant bickering, then I guess I'll just stay away from any place you two are bickering in.

I really like both of you, but somebody has to take the first step to end this constant fighting. You are both free to post whatever the fuck you want, but please have some consideration for the other people that read these threads. It's not funny; it's just mean.

Thank you Harvey.

It had to come from someone who is respected here.

Say, I just noticed something . . .

That's a damn fine-looking avatar there, Lame.

Seriously, that's pretty damn cool, and no, I'm not saying this to change the subject either. Nice.

You're welcome!

It's the cover of a damn fine record!

Mr. Bungle - Disco Volante

Dan (Dot), thanks for posting about the pop filters to help minimize sibilance at "The Planet".
I'm planning on getting one shortly as a result.
You guys seem so cool over there that it almost makes me want to get a VS recorder!
