reverb plug-ins

is there any free (or "almost free") reverb plug-in worth downloading? so far i've tried the digilogue blue-line reverb and "freeverb". the latter is a bit too cold (or maybe I'm a bit too dumb too limited.

any suggestions?
 
Don't know about any downloads but have you tried putting a speaker in your shower and a mike in the bathroom on the other side of the room. Send signal to the speaker and pick it up with the mike (or two for stereo).
It's cheap and it's real. :)

wow... I just realized that something of my post got lost while copying/pasteing.
all I want to say: I'm looking for a (possibly) free warm sounding reverb plug-in.

john, thanks for your reply - it sounds worth doing since everyone knows how good voices can sound in the shower ;-)... but this time my neighbours will not only pray that I shut up but call the police to arrest this lunatic "playing" his guitar in the bathroom :-).
 
a very nice reverb that you can get for free is

freeverb

which is a directx plugin that you can search for in yahoo.


But about real reverbs. I stumbled on this the other day.
I have an ancient metallic fire place in my bedroom that produces a nice platey, six second reverb when you sing close to it. I gotta mic that bad boy up soon and see what I can get on tape.
 
cyan, I DO HAVE freeverb. but I guess I'm too dumb to get it sounding good. do you have any settings-suggestion for vocals from where I could start with experimenting?

about natural reverb: I just realized how funny the reverb in my "recording room" (the room in the flat where the pc is) works; it really depends how loud and how high you sing. unfortunately my room adds more reverb to my low voice - I'd rather have it the other way round.
but recording mono it's useless anyway - my opinion.
 
try rolling off the low-end of the WET reverb. you'll have to experiment with level and corner freq, but this will go a long ways towards warming the sound. i use this technique quite often and once you've mastered it, you'll keep coming back to it.

it was stated that the room adds more low-end reverb and i agree this is not necessarily a positive. once this ambient sound is recorded, it's difficult to fix it. if your room has too much low-end abience, then maybe you're in need of bass traps or other low-end treatments. you probably have a modal problem.
what's your room's dimensions?

back to the EQ'd reverb, try it, and keep trying it, it works.

For a more "natural" or "warm" reverb, you should try making the reverb's High Cut (the highest frequency that reverb is allowed to reverberate) 5 or 6 kHz. This way you should not get all that ringy unnaturalness that we dislike cheap reverbs for. If the verb program does not have this on it then EQ the reverb return. Also, as someone else said, it's also a good idea to set the Low Cut to be ~400 to 500 Hz, since we don't usually want the reverb doing its thing below that frequency range of the voice. All these numbers are merely approximate and will be determined by the signal, so experiment.

I did not fully appreciate freeverb until I spent almost two hundred dollars on an external reverb. THe external unit is better, but freeverb can come close, and for the money is unbeatable.

I usually set up the room size about midway. I like turning damping all the way up, and the wet/dry mix all the way up(if you are using a send)

I also eq out the return, removing the high frquencies and some lows.

I usually use freeverb for the vocals or some bass, not kick . I think it is optimised for vocals.

When I don't feel like recording an extra stereo track of reverb, freeverb is what I always reach for first.

the only gripes I have about freeverb is that it is easy to use too much, and the early reflections are not contollable. but high cut/low cut eq can fix some of that.

Sonixx has a point!

I love the Ultrafunk verb, use it all the time. Check it out. As Sonixx says, it's pretty cheap and a real good sounding reverb. I have used it against some of the best plugins, including TC and Waves...and I go back to it all the time. Not saying it's better...I just like it! bOb
