Hello , here's a "hopefully" finished vocal version of the alt funk instrumental I posted earlier. The lyrics were a collaboration between me and "Epic Dreamery" a fellow Soundcloud and Cakewalk user. Anything sticking out that needs attention please let me know. All comments and suggestions welcomed . Thanks .. mark -REMIX- down the page

@uraT@RI) YEP - NOPE - I Totally disagree with your suggestions for this song and disagree with "Every Response" you've posted on this forum. Go ahead and post one of your songs. You've really started out on the right foot your first week here. I'm for sure clicking the "ignore this user " button.

The song is really great - the guitars are like 4 separate players kind of not listening to each other - the vocals are great.

Very Ry Cooderish :)

Hey Mark,

Another great song! Fine lyrics and not what I was expecting when I heard the instrumental.

I would raise up your vocal which for me is the star of the show.

Compliments to you and Epic Dreamery. Love it!

I really like that bass groove underneath. Mix sounds great on my headphones, nice panning L/R of guitars, playing really tasty meshing parts. This is great!

@Papanate ,Thanks for the listen and compliment. I had to be Real careful with all the different things playing at the same time. @RFR , appreciate that. I was a big Ry Cooter fan back in the day. @HumanPlanet , Thank You and I appreciate your comments on a lot of my previous songs. Yeah , after doing the instrumental I really didn't know where to take the vocals. It was one of Epic Dreamery's lyric lines that opened the door for a story line. After that it came together pretty fast. I was really stuck. I've got another mix with the vox up a little. I've done so many mixes I'm getting confused about what to keep. @stratmonkee , Thanks for taking the time to listen and respond. I'm not much of a bass player but anything "funkish" is easier for me. Thanks to Everyone who took the time to listen to this .. mark

It's the mixers curse! You can tweak a mix for an eternity and it won't be finished. If you're 'happy enough' with it (whatever that means) and there are no major issues then it's time to call it and move on.

I appreciate your comments on a lot of my previous songs.

Well deserved. I've not heard a bad song you've done and I've become a real Mark Skinner fan and look forward to the next one!

Great tune!

You've gone for an old school sound. This reminds me a lot of 70s style mixing. As such, please frame my observations in that context. In the 70s, there was a lot of concern about having too much low end - which could cause the needle to leap (literally) off the record.

There's nothing inherently "wrong" with a recording lacking low end definition ... but with a funk song, I'd have really more attempted to accentuate the rythmn section and the funk bass - more - believe it or not - in a "rap" sound way (really bringing the bass out).

You've great definition on the vox and the gits etc ... but if I were to revisit the mix, due to the nature of the piece ... it would be the "down low" that my focus would be on - perhaps "modernizing" the sound a bit more to reflect new technologies available.

@K-dub , hey Thanks for the evaluation. I seem to struggle a bit with the low end. It seems that when I try to punch it , it just gets muddy and takes away from the headroom so .. I've been relying on Ozone suggestions for the lows. I've started using a Pultec EQ , and it seems to help , but for some reason I didn't try it on this one. I've started to get some good mix suggestions and I'll for sure take a close look at the low end on the next mix. Thank You .. mark

If you really want an example of how old school can be "modernized" - you need look no further than the new version of "Revolver". Check out how Giles Martin makes McCartney's bass pop. In the old days, mixes muffled bass and drums due to engineering issues (and early recording limitations), but the new mixes are quite modern ... and they don't hold back on the low end.

Great job, very cool groove, and great performances all around.

Really the only thing that bugs me is the vocal treatment. They don't seem to mesh with the rest of the mix very well, IMO. They don't seem to be in the same "space" as the rest of the band. That's just my .02, obviously.

OK , here's a Remix I "finally" got done. Lots of Suttle changes and a few bigger ones. Thanks for the comments and suggestions ! mark
You really brought out the vibe in the track - you captured that Joe Cocker type rolling band thing - and little bit of Weatherman by Delbert McClinton (Ground Hog Day) - the arrangement is al lot clearer than before.

Hmmm .. went to check out the new mix on the Soundclick page, and it wouldn't play for me. I hit play, and it just sits there. MySpace has does the same thing for years now (the few times that I've actually been on there). I think I heard it's because MySpace still uses Flash to play; I wonder if that's the case for SoundClick now. I used to be able to play on SoundClick; this is the first issue I've had on it.

@famous beagle , I just made sure I wasn't logged in to Soundclick , and the remix link above worked as expected. Google the song name and Soundclick and see if it plays. ?? I can't figure out what has happened to the instrumental version of the song. "Sunrise Funk" It's been sitting between #2 and #3 on the main charts and #1 on the acoustic guitar chart for a month ! I did the vocal version because I thought the instrumental wasn't up to par. ?? mark

Awesome job man, loved it, great instrumentals, very cool vocal timbre; downloaded!
