Yay. I recently rediscovered a series of cassette tapes dating back to my old (and VERY short-lived) radio program in the early 1980s. I cautiously tried one tape on my trusty Caliphone cassette player, and it seems to be okay---so I'm assuming all the tapes are still pretty flexible... Memorex tape still rules (knock on wood).

ONLY PROBLEM is that I'm hearing a little drift, picking up bleedover from the other side of the cassette tape, so I'm guessing this is either a tape head misalignment or the tape itself has become physically distorted over the long decades of storage.

I would LOVE to transfer this old crap over to CD, retaining as much clarity as possible, before the tapes disintegrate into dust. So, I suppose I'm asking for advice toward realizing this objective... What equipment, what software, to what gods do I pray?

Gracias, mi amigos

Charles-You might want to ask some of the people on the Analog Only forum. There are some people on that forum that are very knowledgable about tape and may be able to help you.

Connect the line outs from your tape deck to the line in of your soundcard and record the tapes onto your pc. See how much bleedover you get, it might be terrable or it might not be noticeable at all, try it and see. Once on the pc you might be able to filter out some of the unwanted sounds, maybe someone familiar with software to do this will address it. If what you get on the pc is accetable then just burn it on a cd. If all else fails, ask Light, he knows about things like this.
