I see that Dwarf, who opened this thread, says he's 16. If I could be 16 again I'd make the guitar my religion. I'd practice daily under several different teachers and would strive to master several different styles by my mid-20s. Eventually, I'd probably unwittingly ease into a style that's a comfortable mix of the best parts of each school of thought, but I'd probably also be able to do justice to each distinct style if I needed to. And that would be sweet. That would be very sweet.

Wish I was 16...
Unfortunately, most teenagers are distracted by school, friends, and other things that it's difficult to set aside time for a regimented practice schedule. I wish I could practice more than I do.

Teenagers? Uh-oh, Flippy. I hope you're not counting on the distractions to diminish as you get older. If you're serious about the guitar (or anything, for that matter), my advice is to do it now, do it now, do it now.

(Forgive me if my mid-life crisis is showing.)

maybe it's just me ?

maybe its just me but when i play my pinky tends to sort of cling onto the high E, plus most of the time i'm palm-muting so my hand gets SOME rest

i play acoustic rock (rhythm and sing) and i'm fairly sure no part of my hand/wrist ever touches unless I'm palm muting...i use fingers in my left hand to mute the strings i'm not playing that are in the middle of the chord, and if i'm not using the bottom strings i just don't play them with my picking hand (this took a long time for me to learn this coordination)

this confuses me because the high E is the most active (moving notes) string in my playing...i'm guessing we play very different styles or something...

The guy I was talking about was my 1st teacher, I quit with him becuse he was a prick. I sometimes wonder where I'd be today If I didn't. I play metal (I guess) i dunno I just started this thread becuase I was worried now I see alot of people do what I do.

Oh and I'd LOVE to make guitar my religion I just CAN'T I have so much shit on my plate it's not funny
