I'm looking for a tiny portable preamp (as small as possible) that will take a mono miniplug, raise it to line level and output to stereo miniplug. My MD recorder only has a line in, and the mic just isn't loud enough. I don't need a fancy or super high quality preamp, just something with low noise that's portable. If anyone knows about something that'll work, let me know. Thanks.

Oh and cheap too, being a college student puts a hamper on your spending money....

Also, I'm somewhat handy with a soldering iron, and I have a couple INA217's. So if anyone is so inclined, they could design a basic little preamp for me and then I could build it and let everyone know how it sounds, then we could patent the idea and make millions of dollars or something. Or we would just have a really cheap option for those of us that need a portable preamp.

Does it need to be battery operated? If not, there are several small ones available at www.musiciansfriend.com for under $100. I think you may need to get some adapters to make them work with your MD. Search for mic preamp.

I already have an ART Tube MP, which I could use that way if I wanted to, but I was hoping for a smaller portable preamp with 1/4" or 1/8" ins and outs.
