Yo Colleagues of Gourmet Recording:

I just got my Yorkville 430 mic and plugged it in. It has a wonderful sound footprint. I was using an AKG3000 for most of the vocal work I do but the 430 is much better.

Cost: List price is 185 pezzutos but take 25% from that. So, for around 133 pezzutos plus tax if there is any, I think the mic is a fine buy.

When I first plugged it in, I had it facing the wrong direction and thought I got yammed; however, I just turned the mic around and some great sound was there.

There are no switches for roll-off or etc., as has the AKG3000; but the fewer switches something has the better it is for me.

Thought you all would like to hear about the mic; I recently bought Yorkville monitors, YSM-1's, and they are just great too; that is what prompted me to buy the mic.

Would you advise using it for anything other than vocals?

I talked to an engineer friend of mine . . .

Yo GH!!

How's things. I talked to an engineer friend of mine from Canada and he said that he has two Apex 420s. We were talking about the AT4033 and if there were any decent mics in the same price range. Then he proceded to tell me about his Apex(s). I mentioned the problem with the lack of a low frequency roloff switch and he told me that there IS one. He may have been bullshitting me, but who knows.

He said that whenever he gets a new mic, the first thing he does is take off the windscreen and remove the capsule and inspect everything. Well, I dunno how great an idea that is, but he said that he found a roloff switch in there. You might want to check it out. Lemme know if it's true. :D

Oh, and Magnum . . .

The same friend of mine told me that the mic is comparable to the AT4033 so if you know anything about that mic, you should be able to tell what it's good at micing.

Oh, and one more thing.

I simply HAD to post this just so I could FINALLY move up to a JUNIOR MEMBER. Scheesh. I was getting pretty tired of being labeled "newbie." LMAO

Sorry I took up precious space in this thread, but it had to be done.

Your newest Junior Member,

I have a 420 and its a decent mic. The difference between the 420 and 430 is the 420 is a multi pattern mic ( omni and cardiod) and has a rolloff switch. The 430 is cardiod only. I also have a pair of 4033s and while I like the Apex a lot, it ain't no 4033.
It does a good job on vocals and acoustic guitar.
