Have a V-77 Tube mic, that recently started buzzing a bit. I am thinking it might be the tube, as the mic is about4 years old, and the tube has never been replaced...

Someone here might know better. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good tube replacement, or otherwise what might be the problem with my mic.

any and all help appreciated...

I'd get a nice NOS 12AY7 or 12AT7. I'm not sure if I remember if the V77 has a socket where you can replace the tube. You might have to install one if I recall.

BTW, tubes usually don't wear out in 4 years and if they do, it doesn't cause a buzz. It's probably something else like a ground problem.

Well if it is a ground issue, then I have to wonder why it just started. Same studio, and I did not have any issues before...

Any other idea what it could be if not the tube...

There are many things it could be. You can determine if it's the tube by simply swapping the tube with a borrowed cheap/used spare that is of the same kind as the original (i.e., 12AX7, 12AT7, etc.). If the buzz goes away then look for a good replacement tube, perhaps a NOS. If the buzz doesn't go away, then something else is amiss.

Could be the cable. A lot of flexing can cause connections to become weak. It might be the tube. That would be the simplest thing to check, if it has a tube socket. Is the signal weak at all?
