Force of Naked
Since Aardvark apparently has gone the way of the Dodo, I will have to purchase a new soundcard at some point in time, as my Direct Pro 2496 will (most likely) no longer have any driver support and such. Currently, the Aardvark cards do not support the newer Athlon 64-bit chipsets, which I will move to in a year or so once the bugs get worked out a bit more. So, an upgrade will have to happen at some point.

I'm looking for a soundcard that will have 6, 8, or 10 analog inputs, with or without preamps. My major concerns are financial (can't spend more than a grand), and qualitative, as I want some good AD/DA converters to be able to import analog signals to mix in the box. Our drummer has a 16-track 1" deck which we want to use to record tracks which will be imported into the box for editing and mixing. We plan to use third-party mastering service, as we feel this would be best as none of us have any experience with mastering, as such.

I have tried searching the forum and I just get more and more confused the more I search. Brands Lynx and RME pop up quite often... What about the new E-MU stuff? They advertise as having the same converters that digi uses, any good?

Any comments and suggetions would be greatly appreciated!! ;)

Thanks!

What's going on w/ the company? Where have they gone?

Out of bidness.....

Check out the threads in this forum as well as the cakewalk.com "gear" and "Sonar" forums (and others) and you'll get the info. Definitely a bummer... :(

I am also stuck in the same boat.
Currently, I am looking at the Layla 24/96 or the Layla 3G. Any ideas on how these converters compare to the Aardvark?

M-Audio 1010 is 64bit capable and has 8 I/Os and is very dependable for years. Besides since Digidesign bought M-Audio a few months ago--they are not going out of business.

Look in the auctions like ebay for some decent deals. I bought mine from a seller for around 250usd. Funny is that he bought a Aardvark Q10 later on to replace it and now they are gone.

Well this is sucky news. We use several of the DirectPro 24/96's at work. I just told my boss and he's thrilled.

Too bad for Aardvark- It was a good company. Here is what is stated in this forum. Their original website is now gone also so I guess it's true. Maybe someone like DIGI is buying them out?

Yeah, that's one of the threads I've been taking part in, although there is a better one in their "gear" forum (which I link to in one of my posts) that goes into more deatil. Also, Aardvark's site (http://www.aardvarkaudio.com/) is still up, but there is no way to contact them whatsoever. I hope someone picks up their product lines! :(

EMU 1820 to replace my Aardvark??!!

Hmmmmm.....

I think I may have found a card to replace the Aardvark DP 2496. I think I may go with the EMU 1820M, as it has 6 balanced analog inputs, plus two mic/line inputs with pres (for a total of 8 inputs), and reportedly *great* A/D-D/A converters, which is what I'm really after.

EMU 1820M

Any thoughts?
