Force of Naked
Since Aardvark apparently has gone the way of the Dodo, I will have to purchase a new soundcard at some point in time, as my Direct Pro 2496 will (most likely) no longer have any driver support and such. Currently, the Aardvark cards do not support the newer Athlon 64-bit chipsets, which I will move to in a year or so once the bugs get worked out a bit more. So, an upgrade will have to happen at some point.
I'm looking for a soundcard that will have 6, 8, or 10 analog inputs, with or without preamps. My major concerns are financial (can't spend more than a grand), and qualitative, as I want some good AD/DA converters to be able to import analog signals to mix in the box. Our drummer has a 16-track 1" deck which we want to use to record tracks which will be imported into the box for editing and mixing. We plan to use third-party mastering service, as we feel this would be best as none of us have any experience with mastering, as such.
I have tried searching the forum and I just get more and more confused the more I search. Brands Lynx and RME pop up quite often... What about the new E-MU stuff? They advertise as having the same converters that digi uses, any good?
Any comments and suggetions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
