Plods along well.
Raspy vocals are a lot like Tom Waits.
I get this is kind of a dirge.
What happened?

Started out as an ode to my pup and evolved into this. I tried singing it without the gravel but that ship has sailed.

I wanted it to be like waves hitting the shore, don't know if I have succeeded, probably just sucked.

I like the dirt on the vocal. Good tone on the lead guitar and pedal steel.

Good sounding bass. Bass could maybe be compressed (harder). The level is bouncing around.

The vocal is sitting way on top of everything. Its level is all over the place.

Kick/snare/toms sound really good. There is a (ride) cymbal that really sticks out.

A bit of a strange fade at the end.

The end is a clusterfunk for sure, this was a quick mix but the end is going to be tough. The PSG is supposed to come back in on the last 16 bars and I missed it until the last 8. At the end of the climb, I am not quite in tune and it has to be cut. I will give it some more work. If I knew how to use the automix on the 02R it would make life easier. I have to look into that one of these days. I am working on another tune and found a good compressor setting for the vocal, it is a different mic though and there is no compression at all on the mix. The mic used on this one is a AKG 3000. I am not much of an engineer, I always left that up to someone else but now I have no choice. Actually, nothing on that mix is compressed I don't think. I am not up on all the technical terms etc., I just get it set to where I like it when I use it? I will go back in and check the bass and see what can be done. I was not happy with my vocal track but I don't think I will ever sing it any better, it has been all down hill for years now. I used to do all the high harmonies in bands I played in, that ship sailed quite awhile ago. Thanx for the listen. I was about to just let it go, I have other fish to fry but I think you lit a fire under my ass again.

I went back over to the studio and did some tweaking, a glass of wine and a bowl. There was no compression on anything. It did help the vocal track and bass track. Does anyone ever take the stereo out, for mixdown and compress it to get all things more even? I have a lot of erasing and silencing to do on that ending lol. I finally found the culprit with the high note out of tune, has to go etc. There are up 16 tracks on this with six of them being drums which I will only use five of for he final mix. There is a really good line that I like on one of the guitar tracks in the beginning but it never repeats it. Just redo that track with those bars, It is only during the interludes. I don't work with computers it is coming from the HD24 through the 02R and then to the burner. I know, get with the times, I haven't much time left so it doesn't matter.
