Hello!

I'm bidding on ebay for Cubase 4 that is by seller described as NEW in unopened box,
incl. USB dongle. As I browsed on Steinberg page, they don't have options for activating and registering cubase 4 nor Cubase 5 , only AI 4 and AI 5, LE 4 and LE 5 and of course all the versions 6.

So before I buy this product I wonder, how do I Register and activate Cubase 4 or 5?
Will the registration page automaticly detect what Cubase it is by entering USB dongle
licence code?

Stupid question I know, but wanna be sure before I buy something.

And secon questin...if I buy used, already registered and activated Cubase,
does previous user have to unregister and then I can register the product on my
name?... So if he dosen't unregister, how do I register on my name?

What else should I be carefull about when buying Cubase on Ebay?

Thanx for all the answers,

Have a musically creative day!

There will be an activation code included in the box. You will first download the latest version of ELicenser and enter the code there. Elicenser will activate your license with the dongle. It will be your only one. Do not lose it or you will have to buy the software again.

For transferring a license, go to the steinberg site under 'knowledge base' and look for the transfer license wizard (or something like that) for instructions. :D

Thanx Jimmys69 for fast reply!

>Elicenser will activate your license with the dongle.

OK. But when software is activated, I still nead to register it on Steinberg site right?
But there is no option for versions other than I mentioned in prev. post...
So do I go in Cubase 6 section and try my luck? :)

Hmm... nothing like that came up there by search window...
Anybody bought second hand Cubase and did licence transfer procedure through?
Please explain how...

Thanx for answers!

Bye.

Well that is weird. I had just used it two weeks ago and now it no longer exists. Hmm. Better contact Steinberg or post a thread at steinberg.net>Support>Forum.

That's also a problem, as you can not post in official cubase forum at steinberg.net, unless you activated one of their products first :(

Did Steinberg actually cancel the support for Cubase 4 and 5 versions and therefore
registration for those versions?

I just posted this on the Steiny forum for you:

Buying/Registering new or used Cubase 4 or 5

Hey guys, I am relaying these questions from a member of another forum and I do not have the answers for him. Hoping someone here can help. :)

Hey! Thanx, thanx a lot!

Sure you got your self a full-pine nice cold E-beer.
I wish I could buy you a real one, as they say:
A Beer in Hand is Worth Two in the Fridge (or five on the web I suppose) :)

And please say thanx to mr. Rohde for explanation.

Cheers!
