I need an amp to power my passive monitors: Dayton BR-1s 100W

The budget is at $300. Here is what I've been looking at: (sorry no links, I don;t have enough posts)

- Behringer A500

- Alesis RA300

- Dayton APA150

- used NAD C325BEE

- used Hafler p3000 (Can;t find used under $300. When I do, it ain;t in pretty condition)

I'm leaning towards the A500 because I hear (rather read) more favorable responses and the price point is good.

I know the Hafler is better quality, but they have been discontinued and the unknown abuse of a used product makes me wary.

$300 isn't much, but my current amp, a vintage pioneer sx-780, is getting tempramental in its old age and I need a replacement now. I WILL upgrade and plan to recycle this present purchase into a separate system for the house.

$300 amp for BR-1s? Personally I'd get a cheaper amp and use that extra money towards new monitors or just get pair of active monitors (maybe save a bit more). BR-1's are fine listening speakers and all, but I wouldn't want to mix on them.

I second the Ashly SRA-120. Great amp second hand for a great price. If you want to spend a bit more, look at a used Crown D-75A. Both the Ashly and crown are absurdly priced new, but good priced used. Finally, take a look at the older QSC USA400 model. It's a great fanless amp that you can usually get for a pretty cheap.

"BR-1's are fine listening speakers and all, but I wouldn't want to mix on them."

Why not? Do they color the sound too much?

But it does make sense. Bad speakers will make a great amp sound bad. Great speakers will make a bad amp sound good (well if not good, better)

Thanks for tip on the Ashly. Never heard of 'em but they do look good.

of those listed the nad and the hafler are Easily the better... are ya hip to craigslist??? try the audiofool adds.. these guys change equip for no reason at all... good buys to be had there...

Yeah I'm hip to Craiglist, but it is getting to be like searching for a needle in a haystack among all the used Cellphone posts.
