I have an old reel to reel tape recorder made by sobell. Whenever i turn it on the reels are moving at different speed, is this normal and if not how do I fix it? Any help would be appreciated.
Well I thought it was on playback but when I opened it up the control was set to rewind. When I fixed that problem and turned it on the left wheel only works when rewinding and not during playback
Never heard about that brand before and did a search, nothing came up.
Is it a portable from the 50 - 60's or ?
Belt-driven and idler-wheels inside or ?
did you have tape on it?
I mean, if you're just watching the platters run.... the left one would only work on rewind since the right one pulls the tape thru the guides which is what usually turns the left one as the tape gets pulled to the other side.
Well I opened it up and it seems that, from what I can make out, the idler wheel has a belt attached to it and the platter that holds the right spool. It says that the sobell in the 60's, what's cool is the strange oval shaped speaker made by celestion and it has two mullard valves in it. I will post pics soon.
