I currently have my Reel to Reel tape machine sitting between my monitors on my desk. There’s about a foot and a half of space between the R2R and the monitors (on both sides). Is this ok? Or is it a bad idea?

Thanks mates!

ehhhh......I would be safer and just move the reel to reel. I'm not sure if it would affect it, but it's better to be safe than sorry. The magnets in the monitors may mess up the tape/heads. Then again, I don't know what I'm talking about. Having a recorder in the middle of monitors is a pretty strange idea in the first place in my opinion ;)

Anti is right. Better be safe and move those monitors or the R2R. ;)

What model monitors? Are they magnetically shielded? If they are, they pose less of a problem.

They're Yorkville YSM1P monitors. I'm working in a small space...Maybe I'll wheel up a spare "mini desk" and use that for the R2R to sit on (away from the monitors). I had a feeling that my setup was a bad idea...

Thanks guys...

Any other thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks again! :)

Yorkies are shielded, but I still have reservations about actives in close proximity to magnetically sensitive material.

Monitors are normally placed on either side of your mixing console, with recorders and tapes 3 ft or more away from either monitor… as a general rule.
