I've been using the Presonus Firebox for awhile just to power up the mic and headphones. It worked GREAT. Recently I decided to get some studio monitors and started running Some Rokit 6's with XLR TO 1/4 cables into the firebox. The firebox is connected to the computer thru 1394 firewire cable. Well after 4 days of recording with the mic and the headphones and NOW monitors hooked up to it, it decided to stop working. When I plug it up the blue light comes on for 2 secs then stays red and is not sync with computer now. The only thing I did different was do a "system clean up" with windows and cleaned the c drive. but I usually do that once in awhile with no problems. It seems since I hooked up the monitors, and after a few days, it stop working. I don't use ac adapter, I just use the firewire cable to power the firebox from computer. I researched ALL day and all night and couldn't find solution.

Here is my computer information

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Hewlett- Packard Company
Compaq Presario
AMD Sempron Processor
3200+
900 MHz, 448 MB of RAM

I haven't had Internet on that computer for long time so no way to update.

But the thing is I ran the firebox on it for bout a year and half no problems until I hooked up the Rokit 6's to it and decided to make firebox my main sound card. It worked for about 4 days then stopped.

I've tried system restore and didn't work either.

Here is my options that I'm thinking?

1. Get another firewire cable ($32) and see if that's the only problem

2. Back up my files on an eternal hard drive ($80-$120) then reinstall windows back to brand new

3. Buy an up to date computer and see if firebox works. ( $325-$500)

4. Buy a new firebox ($200) and HOPE it works with computer, because if it's just a computer problem then Ill have two fireboxs and a broke computer :(

I have no idea what to do.

Can anyone help?

Has the firewire connection within the computer become disabled?

Try reloading the firebox discs.

Cheers

I tried to uninstall the old firebox driver and it says "could not open install.log file" then closes the unistall operation

COULD THIS BE THE ROOT OF MY PROBLEM?

Yeah, could be part of a botched install.

Have you tried just installing them or does it give you the old "This software is allready installed" message?

If you try installing from from windows (under control panel > install / uninstall software (programs), not by putting in the CD, there will be an option to repair the application. Then you put the CD when told to by the install software program. Instead of reinstalling everything it just checks that it's installed properly and repairs what it needs to.

Cheers

I don't have the cd anymore, I can't find it.

I'm assuming I'm going to have to just replace the firebox :(

go to your devise manager while the firebox is hooked up to your cpu.

if there is a question mark next to the name of the devise, right click and update your driver.
