i have an old hp laptop with Windows XP. my knowledge of the computers inside is beginner's level at best, so please explain things step by step and in the simplest of terms.

i recently bought the Lexicon Alpha to record my keyboard accompaniments and voice. the instructions were simple enough and easy to follow; i managed to install the Lex and Cubase without pulling any hairs. i even got to the part where i can listen to the keyboard through the headphones i put on the Lex. i can also listen to any sounds the laptop makes through the same headphones. but i cannot record. i follow the steps of the Cubase to record, i press the red button, the track graphics are there, they run to the right, but it doesn't make one difference on the track.

i also have the cakewalk music creator program, but it doesn't bulge either. with that program i have recorded vocals before. i don't like to record the keyboard because it sounds scratchy. i was hoping that the Lexicon Alpha would take away the scratchiness. (it has, it doesn't record anything.) any ideas?

Thanks!

ok. open up cubase. then go to devices - then device setup- vst audio system, selct your lex- go to vst system link - select asio input and change it to something other than not connected. i hope this helps. i dont know lexicon but thats how my phonic is setup in my cubase le4 and it works.

follow the steps above those are super important. Althought its been a while since i used cubase. I once had a lexicon alpha with cubase and every time i opened cubase i had to hit F4? ( i think thats the right key) and it will bring up a list of your inputs and outputs and make sure that input 1 is on channel one and input 2 is on channel 2 etc. Then check your inputs on the individual channels in cubase to make sure you have the right inputs sending to the record tracks.
