Is there/ what is the best way to record my signal wet and dry at the same time - as in - say im recording guitar, and i want to use the overdrive on my amp on it, but would also like to record a clean signal to blend in, or incase the overdrive isnt great in the mix. Whats the best way to go about this?

Cheers, james

Record with a second clean/dry track..
I'll second that question; What is a good hi-z to balanced splitter that even finicky guitarists wouldn't mind having in line to their amp?

I've used a simple DI box for splitting purposes. It works well for both guitar and bass. Many DIs have an "line thru/amp out" that bypasses the DI so you can send a second signal to the amp. I'll send the DI signal to one track and the miked amp signal to another track. You may have to do some minor phase/timing alignment if you want to blend the tracks, as they are often slightly out of phase. My main DI is the GT Brick, which works great. I've also used the inexpensive Behri DIs, which have the amp out, as well.

i use a direct box custom made for me to do this.
guitar in onew end with 2 outs.
one out goes to the guitar amp. other out is an xlr that goes to a mic input on a mixer channel. the box has a vol control on it.
various companies make them.
visit your local music store or try the net.
NOTE>>>never plug a guitar into a sound card directly or into a mixer
directly unless the mixer has a di input for guitar or bass.

right cheers for that, yer i dont tend to do much DI work on my guitar, i tend to mic and use the line out on the amp, but obviously both are wet signals, and are suprisingly different! But now im thinking id like to have a dry signal aswell incase.
