I know it's not the greatest of all mics, but the price and sound attract me for recording singing vocals. My question here is for quality, should I buy the USB powered MXL 990, the normal XLR one with an XLR to USB converter, or simply grab something like the behringer 802 for a mixer? I record all my music through USB and the sound is always good, I just need to start adding vocals to it now. What would be the best way to approach recording vocals with the MXL 990?

Say .......... didn't I just answer this question over in singing and vocals? :D

Don't get a USB mic unless all you will ever do is podcasting. If you ever want to overdub anything get an interface that has hardware monitoring.

Thanks boulder, and as I said, I felt this more suitable for this forum. So how should I go about recording with the mxl?

You'll need at least your basic 2-channel interface. Something with hardware monitoring that is low- or zero-latency. Using headphones you monitor the tracks you've already recorded and record vocals. There are endless variations on this theme, so what works for you will depend on what you are trying to accomplish. It's one of the most repeated questions posted so searching ought to turn up some ideas.

Hell To The No!! Stay away form the USB pieces of stink..

You do not want a mic that acts like an interface. Youll be dealing with too much latency and you cant use ASIO driver mode.
USB mics have horrible drivers also and this will lead to high latency and horrible performance.
Dont Do It!!!
