Recording vocals please help fast

this thread is really funny...gave me a good laugh. classic quotes like
(paraphrase)
"i need this stuff quick man...hip hop album overdue!"
"people record vocals at their place" (hmm..not much stock in audio engineering eh?)
and everyones favorite "computer recording sucks..." and "i need it to go into soundforge", adding insult to injury.
good stuff.

If this isn't a joke and I think it must be:- do you honestly think that a small portable unit is going to give better results than a computer with a half decent soundcard?
