Recording to Cool Edit from a website

Hey guys, I've been using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for about 4 years but this is my first post here....

Is it possible to use CEP to record audio that is playing on a website, or simply whatever audio is playing through the computer's line out?

If I hit the record button while this audio is playing, it does record, but at a very a low volume, almost inaudible when playing back.

I imagine I could use a cord to route the computer's line out jack to the line in but that would probably cause a feedback loop of some sort.

I do have all of my computer's volume controls/settings turned up, non-muted, but still I get little to nothing.

Is there possibly a setting within CEP or my computer that I need to change to be able to do this, or is there a better way that you know of?

i have an Audigy 2ZS and you can choose to record "What-U-Hear" to record what's playing from your computer at the time. you can set this through the sound properties for Creative Labs / Sound Blaster. not sure if you can do it through Audition / CEP
 
Do what BillyBo said, using the Windows Volume Mixer. Should be a little mixer or speaker icon (for XP) in the system tray at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Dbl-click it, goto Options -> Properties -> Select "Recording", check the box under:

"What U Hear"
"Stereo Mix"
or
"Wave"

Whatever shows up for your sound card. Keep the window open and hit record in CEP. Also, make sure the volume slider is all the way up so you get a good signal, however, I have to keep mine down or it clips like crazy.
 
It turns out that my sound card does not have the option for "What you hear" or "Stereo mix" and that's why I can't get it to work. I've read that it's Dell's way of preventing audio piracy. There are alternate drivers that I've found that are supposed to fix the problem but none of them work for me.

It looks like I would have to buy a different sound card to be able to do this.

When going to Options -> Properties -> Recording, there should be a list saying "Show the following volume controls:"

Make sure you have everything selected there.
 
Under options (CEP 2.0), there is no "properties" selection, only settings and device properties, neither of which have any record options.

I'm going to try patching the line out to the line in. I found a thread on another website that claims that it actually works so it's worth a shot.
 
No, I mean the Windows Volume Mixer, not CEP. Here's a screenshot.

It doesn't show on mine because it's not a standard sound card, but any SoundBlaster and most built-in cards have this option.
 
Yeah, everything is already checked there. I guess many people with Dell computers have this issue.

I appreciate your help.

That sucks. My friend's got a Dell with a SoundBlaster-something and doesn't have that problem.

Oh well, sorry it didn't help.
 
I believe it was all of the Dells with a Sigmatel sound card that had this issue. There was a long thread on another forum full of people looking for the same answer. The sound card driver that was linked to from that site worked for some, but not for others. I was one of the "others".
 
Try this alternative solution:
Connect output on your card to input (Use stereo cable).
Do adjust signals on your mixer for optimal recording.
