Recording studio and desk build...

Thanks! That desk really dwarfs the room! I am glad that I didn't make shelves or anything for it. This was my first attempt but I build all sorts of things from my 375 gallon reef tank to telescopes and a teardrop trailer. So if you have any sort of skills this is not hard to do. I just researched it and built as I went... I would get to a point and go "now how am I going to do this...." Then work it out.... I wasn't going to screw the top down because I wanted it to be a clean build but then I got impatient and did it anyway. Shrug... I started collecting dart frogs about years ago and starting to breed them too. Good luck on the project! Let us know what you are doing!

Hey guys... Still adding things do the studio and finally completely finished the desk. I added a new chair that was badly needed. The Arturia synth is an awesome device. I really enjoy playing it!

Desk looks fantastic! I need to make a desk myself with a recessed shelf in the rear so my display monitors can sit lower than the desk height.

I don't have my table saw anymore but I'm guessing this would be easy enough with a straight edge guide for a circular saw (which I have).

I do have achop saw which would make the frame construction go easier.

Is your frame 2X4 & 2x6 construction?

Did you laminate the top?

Thanks guys! I was in the same boat equipment wise. I don't have a table saw but do have a circular saw, router, and chop saw. The frame is actually 1x4's and the top is just the 3/4" maple plywood sanded and finished with dye and a quick coat of varnish. There is almost no support across the front which creates a bow in the desk but that was expected. The goal was a minimalist and light weight frame and bowing was the trade off. Overall the desk is sturdy enough to hold the equipment especially since the weight is over the framing along the back. With that said I definitely wouldn't sit on it.

desk looks top notch. I've attempted builds in the past but never with results quite like that! haha. I like the tanks you got going on in there as well

Well guys its been a while since I have posted an update. Anyway I made quite a few changes. I purchased a Nord Piano 2, changed my studio monitors to the Yamaha's and built a cloud. I still need to create a couple base traps and move the wall panels around so they will be optimal but its getting there....

Very nice, man. So often overlooked is the color... The dark stains that you used, along with the dark fabric on the traps, gives that sort of "zen den" feel. I would imagine some very cool, laid back recordings coming from this room!

Looks like a great place to spend hours on end in as well.

Lot's of people over look that factor.
If your going to spend 12 hours and more in a room , get the mood right !

Thanks a lot guys! I still have more work to do though. When I built the desk I decide not to support the center of it to give me more leg room etc knowing that it would bow a little. So now that I have been using the desk for a while I decided I am going to add two more legs to support the center and may connect them to the outside legs with shelves.... Projects are never really done are they? lol
