Hey, I'm fairly new to recording and I'm having some trouble getting it to sound good. Especially the electric guitar.

Here is my setup and chain:

Marshall AVT100 Half-Stack
SM57 (Tried Millions of Postitions)
M-Audio Audio Buddy
Behringer UB802 Mixer
ME-50 Multieffects Unit

Chain:

Guitar -> ME-50 -> AVT100 > SM57 > Audio Buddy > Mixer (Not Needed, I know) -> Soundcard -> Cool Edit 2.0

Here's the recording:

Thanks in Advance guys, any help would be appreciated greatfully.

Actually sounds pretty good to me. Just sounds like a pretty loud mix. You might try taking the volume down on each individual track (guit.,bass, drums...), just a bit. They just sound like they are all right at max, and when you mix it, it gets too loud. Try bringing them all down, say 3db, and remixing, then if it's quiet, bring the whole mix up bit. You might also have to play with some eq, but most of the mix sounds pretty good.

Hope that helps a bit.

First, what sound are you looking for with your electric? If you haven't already, try recording another doubled set of this and running it closer to the middle of the panning spectrum. If not, I'd bring the electric tracks toward the middle some more. Using two mics is worth a shot, also.

As far as the whole mix goes, it sounds a little muddy (i.e. mid-heavy). I think this mainly comes from the bass guitar being to obvious in the mix. Back it down a little so the guitar can be felt. You might bring the electric

Doesn't sound bad to me. Then again I am a newbie though. Where are the drums coming from?

i would say that the intro guitar part sounds pretty bad but once its gets into the main part it sounds great

yea..what kind of guitar sound are you looking for? if you want it heavier add more low mids to it

there could be millions of things wrong like the behringer mixer you have
:) peace

why are you using the mixer if you dont need it? the more crap in the signal chain the worse the sound gets in my opinion. keep it simple. you will get better results.

to me your mp3 sounds like a decent 80s metal recording. if youre going for that then its cool.
