before you slam me, i DID do a search, but couldn't come up with the answer i needed.

my objective in recording is to establish a "demo" to share songs with band members across the country. i'm not looking for professional quality. i don't care if it's "THE BEST". i just want to record what i have written. it's that simple.

i have an imac g5, toneport ux2, gearbox, and software issues. the software that came with the ux2 was installed on my old computer, the box thrown away (by an awesome roommate), and i didn't like the interface anyways. i tried audacity (a program i used to record records onto my computer), but it didn't seem compatible with the gearbox...or the mac.

are there any decent programs out there that will run with my gearbox and mac? recommendations? i'm really only familiar with protools, audacity, and the ableton software.

thanks a ton for all your help.

You should just use garageband. It's easy, fast, and has all the necessary tools you would need to make a decent recording.

I agree. If all you want is a demo Garageband is fine for recording and mixing it. It won't do 24 bit, but you probably don't need it in your case. I used it to learn how to start recoring and it turned out alright. The stuff I've done in Pro Tools sounds far better, but I actually know a little bit about what I'm doing now, so that's probably the biggest difference.

They're supposed to be putting out a version for OS X by the end of the year. Could play around with Garageband for a few months to learn the basics and pick up Reaper when it's out.
