Presonus Firepod goes for around $500 now and comes with Cubase LE which is a pretty good program. I picked up a second Firepod bundles with SX3 for $700 on Ebay!!

Although it's a hotly debated area, to my ears, the sound quality of the mix bus is of a higher quality than Cubase.

Highly debated because that is a line of bullshit which has been proven wrong numerous times.

If you're cheap like me, the summer issue of Computer Music magazine includes a dvd with the full version of Samplitude SE included. An 8-page tutorial is also included. I recommend you pick it up if you can still find it.

I just think that after you get more experienced with recording you'll find it somewhat limited.

When I said it 'sucked', that's what I meant - there's so many features on Cubase you just don't get, and it's a piece of piss to use!
