I've been using the programme 'Audition' to edit audio recording for about a year, but I'm beginning to find that it doesn't really do all I want it to do. Can anyone suggest any other suitable programmes - something a bit more advanced? I've been looking at Gold Wave. Does anyone else use such software?

Cubase SX3. Is it Adobe Audition? 'Cause that program sucks...

This is the question.

Soundforge has some real 'deep' tools for editing stereo wavs. It has the "Pencil Tool", and a type of convolution reverb, among other things.

But don't dump Audition- the NR is great, and the multitrack window too. A good general editor, and you can do a lot of multitrack chores on it. I really like Cool Edit Pro 2, which is pre-Audition.

So anyway, be specific about what you're after here.

Why does it 'suck'?

There's nothing wrong with Adobe Audition, at least not 1.5, which is what I'm using (don't like 2.0).

It works great for multi track recording, editing wav files, etc. But if you want to get into full production, ie: MIDI, VST instruments, etc., it's not too great. I really like multitracking and mixing with it though as it's real simple.

There are several good ones out there...Sonar, Acid Pro, Cubase, etc. I've only tried Sonar and Acid.

The only real way to know is to try them all out and see which one works best for you.

Yeah you cant go wrong with Cubase.
Great programme and well cheaper than the conglomerates, Pro Tools. :)

Cubase isn't that much cheaper than Pro Tools LE....

$600 for Cubase SX, and still no interface.

$700 for the new MBox 2 Pro with Pro Tools LE.

Yeah Pro Tools LE is pretty limited though.

Cubase SX3 is the same standard as Pro Tools HD which is pretty pricey.

What's wrong with Audition 1.5? Well for starters, it doesn't support ASIO...

I'll agree that SX3 is pretty easy to get the hang of. That being said, I moved away from it a few months ago and have been using Samplitude 8. Although it's a hotly debated area, to my ears, the sound quality of the mix bus is of a higher quality than Cubase. The only thing that comes near Samplitude is SAWStudio, though SAW's midi implementation leaves much to be desired.

True but I've never had an issue because of it. Audition is a great program. IT's not so big on the standard effects but you can use directx and VST's in it. I don't do midi so that's not a concern of mine. I think it's the easiest to use multitrack program out there. Plus it sounds just as good as anything else for mixing

I'd agree that Audition is an easy to learn, good multitrack program to start learning on. I started on it years ago when it was Cool Edit Pro. I just think that after you get more experienced with recording you'll find it somewhat limited.

I'll second Reaper. It's one of the best DAW programs out there and it's free for now. It's essentially the Vegas interface with better routing possibilities then any DAW ever made.

What version of Audition do you have? The only thing than I ever need that audition could not do was midi.
Read the manual, Im sure audition can do what you want! Unless your talking about plugins.

Gold Wave...Are you talking about the waves gold bundle plugins?

I would suggest FlexiMusic Audio Editor, an audio and Mp3 editing/converting software. It has all the options like adjust volumes, add effects, mix to mp3, convert mp3 to wav or wav to mp3.
