I have Cubase Le but I have not installed it. I know HOUSTON DOES NOT work with Sonar, but the main question... Which software is better? I have Sonar 4 Producers and Cubase LE 1.9 . I am a begginner recording, but I'd like to learn a software that is STANDARD and many people (majority USE.) Reaper software!
One on one with the programer is the way to go.
You have a bug to fix?
No prob,Let him know and two day's later a new rev hits the floor

Absolutely!

I'm amazed there isn't much about it on these boards. If you haven't looked at it, you should. It's at reaper.fm

It is excellent, the developer has an amazing track record and the community and ethos is also fantastic.

umm the firepods come with cubase se free , why dont you start with what you have and change it if you need to later ? ;)

for the price of "other" you could buy around 175 bottles of beer which would probably do more for your inspiration and workflow than learning another program :D

I don't doubt the value of the Reaper software, but the name, the logo, and the fact that someone would choose it, just weirds me out. I don't want to look at that stuff while I'm working, so I won't, unfortunately. Music is the most positive thing going. I'd rather he named it Phart.

Well, I just made my final switch from Adobe Audition 1.5 to Reaper today. I've tried Reaper in the past and wasn't sure about it, but it beats the hell out of Audition in terms of features and it's even easier to use.

I also like the idea of being able to record in 24-bit. Plus the support for VSTi's, etc.

It's hard to believe just one guy made this.

You can record straight to 32 bit float if youd like as well. Were currently arguing over whether it is actually less taxing on the cpu.

In options\prefs\audio\buffering theres a newer button for "advanced disk I/O options"

Tweaking around with that some of us are getting lower cpu recording straight 32 than 24...I dont know why

Last time I tried that my CPU had a hard time keeping up with 5+ tracks. Then again, my CPU sucks.

I just hope he puts volume envelopes, time stretching, etc. in Reaper soon. And maybe even an edit view.

Weve got volume envelopes and timestretch, for 7 months now I think

For the editor, just assign two of your VERY favorite editors in the "external editors option"

Then when you right click an event it goes to your editor

PLUS

If you use "open copy" it gives you a new take, so if you dont like what you did in your editor, hit SHift- T to go back one take

Could you please tell me how to do the timeshift?

I searched for it in the manual, and also went to another forum, but couldn't find anything.

  :(

either directly edit it in item properties, or just grab the edge of an item and hold alt and drag

But what if I want to time stretch just part of a track? For example, one note comes in just a little late and I want to stretch it so it starts on the correct beat. Of course, I could, and probably will, retrack it, but it'd still be nice to know how to do it, if it's even possible.

I attached a screenshot showing what I mean. Hopefully it makes sense.

just split around that part and drag it over...clean up the edit by timestretching or x-fading
the newest video has a bit on doing that, but really this is one of the basic editing bits that reaper was created for.

Lining up out of time drums and such is reaper's forte, or at least its original impetus

Reaper looks interesting and creative. So where's the home site?

Do I have to sell my soul to the devil to use it? I like end user flexibility (was slightly into programming years ago), but choosing the track input looked a bit scary to me. Are there ALWAYS a gazillion choices involved? See video 3, track setting for the "drop down list from hell"...

;)

Also, can it work with something like the Presonus firebox? Does it have great file input and out compatibility, like wav and mp3 output? Can it make me sound better than I really am??? And the all important question, how much?...

Q1. http://reaper.fm/index.php

Q2. The developer has a fairly unique take on this. He trusts people. Download it and use it. It isn't crippled. He trusts that if you like it, you will licence it. If you don't pay, that is on your conscience.

Q3. I am fairly new to all of this, and I found it easy to get going with it. As you get further into it, it can be as complex as you want to make it.

Q4. Yes, it will work with that.

Q5. Takes in most file types I can think of. Yes, you can render to mp3 - just use the free lame encoder.

Q6. Non-commercial $39.95 (yes, you read that right) Commercial $199.95

There is a strong and growing community of very helpful people. Why not try it?

Oh, and can it make you better. Well, I asked for a plug-in. I was offered this one, but can't seem to make it work :)

Yes :(

Choosing the I/O is simple. More simple than anything I've ever used. I'm an idiot and I have no problem using it. You can route the track to an FX, VSTi, or send it to another track that can act as a bus, etc.

Also, can it work with something like the Presonus firebox?

I don't see why not.

Yes, both WAV and MP3, as well as other formats.

Can it make me sound better than I really am???

Yes, but only if you sell your soul to the devil.

And the all important question, how much?...

However, if you need more than 30 days to try it out to its fullest, it doesn't expire. But for $40...

The developer has written into reaper a language so that you can write your own plugins in real time while listening to the results. A few guys are coding plugs for it now, you are MORE than welcome to put your 2 cents in!

As to your plugin,,, http://www.zingerbug.com/Comments/E-Lingo/ROTFLMAO_blue_1.gif I was hoping people had a sense of humor here. ;)

Thanks much for the info!!! I'll have to check it out. I'm quite new to such programs so it would be great to be able to try before you buy. I hate spending a wad on software that you don't even end up using much. But in this case, he's not even asking the average musician to pay much. I will check it out!
