Any suggestions for a 16X4 snake for control room to Recording Area (box I guess) would be appreciated...I've seen the usual Hosa/Pro Co stuff and I was wondering if I could get a lead on an UPGRADE to these typical snakes that are sold...
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

How long of a snake do you need?

If you can get around using one, do it. Once a channel goes in a snake, that's it -there's no replacing that channel.
I would say buy QUALITY Mic cables, and then use that "loom" material that you can buy at all the discount houses (like Interstate Music , or Musician's Enema) to wrap the outside of it so it's LIKE a snake.

If you can wield a soldering iron I'd strongly suggest building your own. I took a two space rack blank plate and mounted 16 panel mount XLRs on it and wired it with Beldon audio wire to the preamps and mounted the plate in the wall between the controll room and the studio. I'm not sure how the cost washs, the XLRs are around $4.00 a piece. I'm not sure off the top of my head how much the Beldon was. Wire can get pricy too but the custom fit and repairability (some of the pre made snakes have the molded on connectors, if one opens up you have to guess which end and cut it off) make the home brew the only way to go.YMMV.

i once used an V67 on a baby python...worked well.

pit vipers are tougher...kept clipping the marshall. I think an SM7 would work well for recording more agressive snakes.

Hsssssss.....

I always had sibilance problems when recording snakes. You could try recording them off-axis, but then you end up with phasing problems. Also, make sure your compressor/limiter setup has a de-esser in it. :D
