i was wondering what the best way to set up my recording chain. i have a Shure KSM-32, and will soon be purchasing an ART Tube MP (lack of a budget at the time). i plan to get a compressor soon, but again, can't afford it right now. anyway, i was wondering the best way to set this gear up on a VS-880. and also what else i might need to purchase to record some good soundin stuff. thanks

The VS880 has everything already. If you have the effects board. The preamps aren't the best but it will do for now. Try the vocalmulti and stereo multi for great processing power other than the verbs and delays.I bought the ART MP unit when I had a 1/2 inch reel to reel. When I started using it with the VS880 I heard hiss. Still a great unit for the price. I now use a Envoice. http://www.mindprint.com

Compression is pretty much a requirement for recording vocals, but doesn't the VS-880 have all the built-in effects you'll likely need for home demo stuff? I worked on a project with one (didn't run the unit myself), and it seems like it had all sorts of toys built into it.

Sure it does.

I now use the VS1680, but still the same. You have everything in the VS880 but a good way in. The pre's work for the most part, but if you want juice then you have to go to an external unit. Tube or not. Even one of those Behringer MX604 or whatever. I bought one for stage to work my guitars. They are amazing little units for the price. Lot's and lot's of headroom, for $149.00 Canadian. About $100 $110 US. This will also give you a send and stereo receive, 4 channels with phantom, control room mix and an extra phones jack.
I love the combination of my VS1680 and the Envoice though. It is worth the money.
