Actually, I went to Musicians Institute in Hollywood for recording.
There is no bachelors available for recording (and you don't need one) but they give you a journeyman certificate, which is also kinda eh..
It's purely for self benefit. They have SSL and NEVE consoles in multi-million dollar studios with access restricted to recording students only. Everything is hands-on and the classes are kept small which is a good thing, i think. You learn acoustics, protools, analog tape, pre-production methods and techniques, post-production, studio etiquettes (pretty darn important, if you plan on keeping your job for a while) just to name a few.
The instructors are working engineers with huge names on their credits. Some of which are Brian Mcknight, Crazy bones (from bonethugs), Jessica Simpson, Justin Timberlake, etc... its really interesting to hear some of their stories.
My only advice to you is this. Take everyone's advice, including mine, with a grain of salt and do what you have to do. Don't let people stand in your way of success. You gotta know what you want, and then go for it.
Oh and I almost forgot. Musicians Institute is right smack in the center of the entertainment capital of the world. It sits literally on Hollywood Blvd, across the street from the Kodak Theater and a block away from the Grauman's Chinese Theater. Step out for a smoke and you're standing on Will Smith's star. My point here is that there is no better place to start networking. The music industry is all about who you know, and who you know will determine how quickly you accelerate into the mainstream, or IF you enter the mainstream at all.
Anyway do your research and you will find many schools in the los angeles area. I hear Full Sail is another good one. Good luck!
