Hello folks.. has anyone recorded some schellags with success.. ? if yes which cartridge/needle have you used.. ?
does anyone can support some tips for recording schellags onto your computer?

greets and thx a lot. lowrenzo

schellags are very old thick Vinyls.. :) a little bit smaller and run at 78 rpm.

greets.

You mean "shellacs".........

The cartridge will be the same as you would use for any other vinyl, it's the stylus itself that is different. The cut is wider, so you need a stylus specifically designed to play 78s......

I use an Ortofon OM-20 cartridge and have both the regular stylus and the 78 stylus that I swap around as needed.

my family has a huge number of these including recordings
only on one side. some very rare. some in new condition, some in not so new.
lowrenzo - i dont know how well this might work for you, or how the condition of yours are. but for your info in case your looking.
tracertek.com have something called dart audio restoration tools.
i believe demos are available for trying.
there is various other restoration software on the net.
just google for it. also hitsquad.com has various programs you can try in the software section.
i mention this just in case you need to do any restoration.
it really depends on the source material of course as to whether
one can accomplish a lot.

My co-worker was working on the Save Our Sounds project, and he was doing transfers of old acetates, which are kinda similar. I think it might be good to get a couple different cuts of stylus. One cut may get you less surface noise, but not have enough amplitude. And vice versa. Could be different for those 78's, but there's my 2 cents.

I was thinkin a schellag was some kinda bagpipe or something. :D
