Hi guys,

I'm trying to record vocals/guitar but any recording software i use is picking up the output of the card. For example: I've written a track in reason, exported the loop to .WAV, hit the file to play in media player then tried to use soundforge to record my vocals. Thing is, soundforge monitor is picking up the media player, i'm using headphones but that makes no difference.

Any help would be great because this is driving me crazy.

I'm using XP with an Audigy 2.

What is the INPUT source for Recording ?

Check this way --- START -- All Programs -- Accessories -- Entertainment -- Volume Control

Then, Options -- Properties

Click on button for "Adjust voulme for Recording"
You will see what your soundcard can record from.
Check the options that are pertanent.

Then, a Mixer window will appear.
What "input" is Checked ? There's your answer.

However, your recording software may have a better interface, and skip most of the above steps.
For example: I use the Creative Recorder to record from my cassette 4 track to my SB (home setup). The Creative Recorder has a Drop Down List showing the possible Recoding Sources. Thus, very easy to use.

Control panel>Sounds and audio devices....hit the 'advanced button'. A mixer of some kind should appear. Goto 'properties' in the menu bar. A dialog box pops up. Click the 'recording' radio button. A list of check boxes will appear. Check "What U Hear". Click OK. The mixer should change to the recording mixer, with a "What U Hear" fader. Mute it.

That's not the options for a Soundblaster. It will be "Stereo Mix", NOT "What U Hear"

Also, Ethan pointed you to a great resourse. Check it out ... and learn.

Actually I have a Soundbalster, an Audigy 2 in fact, same as the OP (not that I use it for recording). I wrote that as I was doing it myself on screen. So, I don't know what SB you are using, but those are the settings for an audigy 2. :)

 I stand corrected ... mine shows STEREO MIX. Maybe, it's the drivers.

Question: How are the onboard MIDI sounds on the Audigy 2 ?
I am using the SB PCI-128 with 8 MB Waveset, so, has the MIDI been updated since ?

I think the MIDI soundfonts are pretty good. I'm sure I've screwed around with them a few times in the past and got some quite nice stuff out of it.

Well this worked, but only if i told ableton to use the MME/Direct X driver. That way everything worked fine but i have latency issues. Once i pick the ASIO driver, ableton does not pick up in channel 1/2, only in 3/4 and also picks up the metronome and everything else playing.

I've tried following the instructions above but nothing seems to work.
