I'm going to help a friend record a demo for his gospel quartet, I have decent mics, and CEP 2 on computer, and mixer, got all of the equip. basically. Any basic tips for recording quartets, like mixing and effects. I'll be in a church. I have never done this particular thing, so I would like tips, thanks.

-fix acoustic problem acoustically

and don't try to fix and mix. Fix problems by mic movement you will be surprised how much a littel movement will do.

Try a stereo micing technique that uses two figure of 8 microphones, one on top of the other to make the capsules as coincident as possible, angled at 90 degrees to each other. It gives accurate imaging and spreads the reverb uniformly across the stage with a nice sense of depth. You also might want to go out into the church and find yourself a good seat to listen from and add a mic there to mix into your sound later.
