recording quality?

I dunno, but if you're the singer, you need to just stop now. :p

I don't know how long you've been recording and don't care what you've spent. :p

Mix sounds okay overall. Vocals and acoustic sound kind of boxy, and the drums sound terrible. Actually, the acoustic sounds pretty bad too. Sounds like its got rubber bands for strings. Lol. Guitars sound pretty good though. Really good actually. Bass plods along nicely. Fix the drums and the whole thing will sound better. :)

let me know how long you think i have been recording
and what equipment price range you think i was using

I would say you have been recording less than 6 months and the gear is prosumer stuff with a couple of mxl mics. Not that it's bad at all, its just kinda flat and dull. Probably something like a lil Zoom multi-track.

I think the electric guitars sound good. Vocals aren't really good. I agree about the sound of the acoustic guitar having rubber bands for strings.

Drums sound like crap, but I've actually heard a lot worse.

The mix doesn't seem too bad, but I think everything except the electric guitars needs to be re-done.

wow. you guys have such set ideas of what every instrument HAS to sound like every time, every song.

i would guess you don't have a condenser. do you have like...57's and 58's?

that comes from how lost and how upfront your cymbals can be. and when they are there they seem tinny.

some things sounded a bit boomy in the bass also.

i think it's a fairly good recording considering the equipment. i listen and record to a lot of acoustic stuff and i do not have a problem with the acoustic tone. it's not the focal of the song, so it is almost totally subjective.

the vocals are not terrible, but they could use some intonation practice. doesn't have to be perfect...just a little

Id say youve not been recording for long becuase you are even asking this question.
The vocals sounds like Kurt Kobain on smack singing badly.
The overall mix sounds cool. I like the song. The low mids could maybe be cut some in the bass and guitars. I dont like the drums. Sounds like a pish kit or badly tuned or old skins.

Nice stuff.

Damn Those Guitars Are Sick!

Now if the rest of the song could only be that good. Howd you record the guitars.

Sorry, I don't like the electric guitars - the phased (?) one would be good for psych though.
THe song, except for the piano/forte structure, is pretty good.
Singer is OK but needs better drums and bass & guitars to make him sound right.
Acoustics do sound wrong.
How long: long enough to be encouraged. What gear: good enough to do better with more work.

Did lo-fi mike make a post and delete it? Mike, the email function sends us posts...

Dont equate money with good recordings, you would be surprised what you can do for cheap. A lil research and a lot of experience goes a long way.

i totally agree, i didn't mean to come off that way at all. i just wanted to see if my gear and my talent were in the same field. I'm always looking to improve my sound and although i don't believe it is all about gear, but gear is a part of it.
here is the actual scenario. i have been trying to save up for some appoge converters for a while. then i thought "am i ready for stuff like that or should i master the little that i have now before i spend that kinda money". so if the feedback was that i just started yesterday and I'm using a tascam 4track, then i know that my experience has not caught up to my gear and i should think more about practicing then trying to get bigger.
however if the feedback was the opposite then i now that i might be ready to invest in gear.
It is very hard where i live, there is absolutely no one around here that i can talk to about this kinda stuff, so it is hard to tell if i have grown in recording.

thanks for all the feedback.

lol...you must have edited your first post, because I don't understand why people were giving you shit based JUST on the way it looks right now.

Anyway, I can't disagree with anything posted thus far, but I like the song itself.
