I'm having trouble recording on Audacity. I plugged in my audio-technica ATR20 directly into my pc and started recording and it was fine. However, when I try recording on top of that recording (overdubbing), Audacity records the previous sounds and amplifies it, which makes my overall project sound bad. I'm using headphones, so I know its not from the speakers, help me?!?

First of all, the microphone should really be plugged into a preamp and audio interface, not just your onboard soundcard, but we'll skip that for now. What version of Audacity do you have and what are your monitoring settings?

There are better free tracking options than Audacity. Jump over to the Newbies forum and read up...
