I would love to be able to bring along a laptop and tele caster, and record guitar tracks over a drumline.....in the park/back of my truck/etc. are there tools out there that exist? my budget is about $3000 (including buying new laptop)...thanks!

Yeah, they're is plenty of hardware that lets you do this.

I recommend you get:

Computer-Your Choice.
Software-Cakewalk or Steinberg
Audio Interface-Tascam Us-122(Ideal solution for the guitarist.) or A M-box
Microphone-The SM57 or Sm58
Monitor-You probably would need to get some headphones.
Other-There is much more stuff that you may need.

sounds like the audio interface is a good sound card? i doubt i'll need a mic, but probably is a good idea. if there's other stuff you think i NEED, defintely list them. i want to see if my idea is actually feasible....

recording in the great wide open

will the truck be moving while you record?

:)

if you want to record direct, which I dont reccomend, you could either get a line 6 pod or something similar, or get a computer software program to make your guitar sound. Things like amplitube are really hard to get good sounds out of, but its convenient.

thank you all. I will probably pick up a V-amp 2 as well....heard lots of good things about them.
