Any chance you upgraded drivers for the audiophile lately?
I had a random noise problem after updating my delta drivers (which I believe are the same) under Win98se and had to go back to my original driver set to fix the problem.
It was completely random - meaning it never did it when I expected it or looked for it but every 3rd or 4th time I'd hit record, the noise would be there. It happened in Vegas and Acid.
I seriously doubt its Acid. I have Acid installed under 3 different OS's (Win98se, Win2k and XP) without a hitch. The latest version is version "F," for Acid and Sound Forge btw.
Its like a staticky noise? Throughout the entire track right?
Try this: Go to control panel, look up your sound card properties, make a note of the listed driver, then go to midiman's web site and DL the newest driver (and the oldest you can find) BE SURE TO GRAB AND USE THEIR UNINSTALL UTILITY, otherwise the drivers won't install correctly.
Try the new drivers and see if that fixes it. If not, try the oldest drivers - for me, on the windows98se machine, NO WDM would work.
If that doesn't work, set fire to your mixer....
