Recording Metal Guitar.

Just wanted to know how you guys go about it. And if anyone is willing to share any tips/tricks.

Also, I'm considering using only softwares for this purpose (Amplitube, Guitar Rig and the likes). So it'd be great if we could keep the discussion on that.

I also use a Podxt live so if any of you have managed great recorded tones from that, do share.


Oh and lastly do share any good Vst/Rta's that you guys are using/come across!
 
When using a Pod, I've found it helpful to use a compressor/sustainer model in front of the amp model. This way, you can get all the sustain you want without having to have the gain up so high that it gets fuzzy sounding.

The other thing I have noticed with amp models is that you need to get close to the finished sound when you record. It normally can't take a lot of EQing like a real amp mic'd can.
