Hey guys I'm looking to get your opinions on what mic technique you think would work best here. The band is about 300ish including battery and we will be in a medium sized hall. I have 2 LDC (m-audio solaris) which I plan to use. I'm debating on going with a spaced AB setup or ORTF but since I've never really done this before I'm looking for opinions and comments.

I'd say first you have to consider the room acoustics then move on from there!

The hall looks like it could be just right, I would not set it up like they have the chairs I would have then facing the curtain at the rear of the photo. I would set up an XY pair in the middle and also a spaced pair with 1 mic out wide each side of the XY. In the sound check if anything is missing in the mix I would maybe set up a couple of spot mics down each side. Record the mics to separate tracks so that you can apply separate eq, compression etc later, also you may have to slightly time align the extra mics if used.

alan.
