Recording live show from buss

Ok, so next month I'm playing a show. I'm pretty stoked. I figured I'd take a buss off the mixer and record it to my stereo interface. I'm going to be micing my acoustic at the show. If I mic it in stereo, which would you think would be best . . .

1. Record vocals to one input of the interface, and record a mix of the two acoustic mics to the other. Or . . . .

2. Record a true stereo mix of the whole show?

Unless the mixer has s/pidif out (which I doubt, but I don't know for sure) I'm stuck with two inputs. This is more just as an experiment, but I do want it to be done as well as possible.

Since, unlike with a rock band, you don't really have stage volume issues, you could just record the main mix. I wouldn't distract the sound person with something like recording vocal and guitar to separate tracks. You could also simply put a mic in the room, which gets audience reaction and tells you something about the sound in the room, though it will tend to sound more reverberant than what you'd actually hear from the audience.

A portable recorder would be about a million times better than setting up a laptop and interface in someone's mix space.

I was leaning toward just using the main mix as well. Thank you. That way, at least I could still get a stereo image, instead of mono guitar, mono voice.

As for the sound guy and mix space . . .

my guess is, i'll be the sound guy. This is a small venue in a coffee house. They do have a PA but my guess is that I'll do all the set up. A portable recorder would be nice, but unfortunately, not an option for me at this point.

In my ventures on this it is better to put vocal to one side and guitar to the other if your going to do any post work on this project.
If not stereo out on the board works very good, but in a pinch aux outs will work, just make sure that it's pre fader or you could lose it all to no sound or way to much!
Being that your going to be the FOH guy for this show. Get there very early and set it up for a non hassle time.
