Recording live concerts

I am interested in recording live concerts. Could anybody suggest a brand/model mini disk that is small (to fit in my pocketbook), excellent quality and easy to use. I previously used cassette recorders and tried to fix up the music on my computer with cool edit 2000, but it is not as clear as I would like. I guess my next question is "is mini-disk the way to go?" Can I then take the recording and save it to my computer hard drive so I can eventually burn it on CD? HELP!!! anyone!!! PLEASE!!!
 
I think the minidisc is an excellent idea for recording live gigs and yes you can transfer it to a puter etc.

I am a Newbie but I have some experience with MD's. If anyone thinks I'm telling something wrong, don't hesitate to correct me.
I'am using a Sony MiniDisc Recorder for several years now and I am really happy with it. As far as I know Sony devellops the best MD these days.
But I think the MD-Recorder is not really important: More important is the microphone you're using. You might want to invest some for a good mic. Somebody else has some advises concerning a mic?

For some reason, I remember seeing a review of a small DAT recorder that came with a stereo condensor...not a ribbon mic, just a small, two-headed thing. Runs on a couple of batteries and stays charged for like 4 hours. I can't remember where I saw it...

If you are indeed trying to take an extra little piece of the show home with you, it may be worth it seek it out.

I'd agree with proximus that the mic is more important than the recorder. Although, I wouldnt suggest buying a sony for two reasons. 1: Sony created the technology, and supporting other brands will help minidisc "grow", and things will get cheaper 2: Sony insists on putting an end search button on all their minidiscs products. It's an anoyance and can result in recording over things. All other brands do this automatically.

Any thought to whether the Audio Technia 822 is a good mic for recording live concerts?

Good arguments! The end search button is really a risk! It allready happened to me that I recorded over data on a MD. That wasen't very pleasent!

The 822 is a great mic for field porpuses, and I'm sure it would do great recording shows.

But I think youd be better off getting a stereo pair of premium cardiods as well as one of the battery boxes provided by soundprofessionals. These mics will give you a little bit of a better stereo image, and they are versatile as well (if you ever do decide to record a bootleg). I just checked and they are having a sale on these mics for $150 or so. So with the battery box it will probably be around $220 or so.
