Recording Issue

I've got an issue recording from a Blue Spark (like the mic btw, suits my voice) via a centrance micport pro interface into sony vegas pro. Suddenly I'm getting hiss or hum and the levels on the mic are jumping even when the gain on the preamp is all the way down.

I have tried moving the mic and preamp away from the laptop but I'm still getting it. I'm using AT xlr cables. Could this be the problem? I'm thinking about upgrading to a quad canare or pro co sound xlr cable for more shielding. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening here? It's maddening. Could it be a damaged mic or the preamp?
 
Try different combinations to narrow down what the problem is. Try a different mic with the cable, same mic different cable. Doesn't sound like a mic problem to me. Is all the equipment new ?
 
I've tried switching computers and have the same issue. Unfortunately, I don't have another mic. I am with you in thinking it's not the mic. When I handle the cable I get lots of 'rustle' noise so I'm pretty sure it's got something to do with the cables.

The equipment is about six months old and has worked fine in the past. I moved and this issue started happening shortly after, although it did work fine for a bit at the new place. I will probably spring for better xlr cables and see if that works.
 
Didn't someone else post this same problem with the blue spark?
Have you tried moving the switch on it a few times?
 
I've tried moving the switch on the back, no change, still getting the noise. Even when I just touch the side of the mic lightly the levels rise and if I keep my hand on the mic, w/o moving it, they levels stay risen. What could be causing this? Could it be a magnetic field issue? I've got a laptop, mackie monitor, centrance micport pro. Defective mic?
 
It's been resolved. It was a grounding issue. When I mounted the mic to the Blue shock mount I unknowingly uncsrewed the mic. The mic body was loose. My bad. I should have screwed the shock mount onto the mic with the handles on the bottom. Once I tightened the mic body up and mounted it securely all is well again in recording land.

If anyone is having this problem check that the mic is screwed together securely.
 
I concur. I bought two Kam C3 LDC mics and had that problem with one of them. Just like you found, my faulty one's body wasn't screwed fully tight. Once screwed tight I find it behaves perfectly.
