Recording in closet?

I heard from one of my friends that he knows a guy who records his vocals in his closet, where are the clothes is. He said the reason is that it'll help cancel out a lot of reverb and the closet itself sort of acts like a vocal booth. Is this true? I tried singing in my closet into my clothes and it does seem like there is less reverb going on, but has anyone else tried this?

Another side question: Do longer cables create more noise in recordings?

it kind of depends on how long of a cable or cables you connecting .. but most likely there will be no noise, maybe once you get close to like 150 ft or so you might start to notice something

oh and the other question is true too .. it just makes sense having the clothes absorb some of that reverberation and make it sound more like a sound proofed room

There's nothing wrong with singing in the closet. Liberace did it for pretty much his whole career.

George Michael also partially perfected the closet vocalist technique, but we all knew. Didnt we?

Closet with clothes sound good...i dumped all of my overcoats there.:D

Elton John used to sing in the closet but now he's so rich he doesn't care about the reverberations. Anyone else think that Tom Cruise is too? ;)

There are some people who "get away with" using a closet as a vocal booth, but physics tends to put a damper on it pretty quickly... The problem frequencies in a closet are generally going to fall within the fundamentals of a baritone's natural range. Totally not a good thing. The only saving grace in those cases are probably the amount of additional soft mass (the clothing) in the space.
