Hi I'm using a tascam mkII usb and trying to record stuff with audacity. I hear what im recording but it all sounds like nintendo stuff and not the real sound. Is audacity not the right recording material for me or is it something I'm doing wrong and not setting up my tascam right?

What other equipment are you using? Mics, guitars, monitors ...

Im just using the tascam usb (plugged into my computer) with a stereo L & R cord going from my tascam into my electronic drums.

could be several issues.

I'm no genius when it comes to digital recording, but . . . .

check your sample rate and depth. A lot of people are recording at 24bit (though 16bit is considered CD quality.) So if you're interface or software is set to record at 12 bit or lower, you may well get that "nintendo" sound. Also check your bitrate. The more times per second you sample, the better sound quality you will get. So if you are taking 44,100 samples per second, you are said to be recording at 44.1k. So . . . I don't recall the different common settings here. But check to see that your computer/interface are getting the best "picture" possible, and that you are taking as many of these "pictures" per second that you can. I hope that help.

Alright so I tried messing with the bits and its still coming up the same. When I start a track I am using the 32bit float with 44100hz and I still hear the same sounds. I'm wondering if its something I have to change with the affects of the way audacity makes it sound. I'm new to this tascam so I don't even know if I hooked everything up to my drumset brain correctly.
