hi folks, can anyone help me please?

im a budding guitarist and I have COOL EDIT pro 2.0 and SONAR home studio 4 on my laptop. I also have hundreds of songs as midi files. what I want to do is to convert them into mp3 or wav files to play as backing tracks to play along to. problem is I don't have a clue how to use the software. well at least not much of a clue... I have a little box with the DIN leads and a midi controller. i'm led to believe that with that plugged in and a lead from input to output on my laptop all I then need to do is play the file in SONAR and record it in COOL EDIT. is this right? if not could anyone give me a brief clue how to do it? many thanks in anticipation.

Not home so not sure if this the exact sequence but.... Sonar - Insert Soft Synth in Sonar (TTS-1) with it's output to Master, insert midi track (select your midi file when prompted). Then assign the output from the MIDI track that plays to the TTS-1 midi synth player. File - export audio and it should export it as a wav file.

Assuming you already have a device that plays these things and makes the appropriate noises, why not just record the outputs?

You are looking at some real outdated software here. Both Cool Edit and SHS 4 have long been dropped.

Do you have any budget for this? What kind of computer are you trying to do this on (OS, CPU, Memory, etc.)?
