I recently purchase these mics ( AT2041SP Studio Pack) and was told if I had to, or wanted to try I could record drums with these. Could someone give me some advice as i am as new as can be on mic placement.

Well, what i would do is run the both as drum overheads. It's not a perfect solution, but it could be worse. I would run the LDC over the floor tom side of the kit, and the SDC over the snare side of the kit about 6 feet in the air or so (enough to pick up the full sound of the kit fairly evenly).

Typically you do this with 2 identical mics (usually SDCs), but there really isn't any strict rules to follow. I have done this before with a Behringer B1 and a MXL 603S in the same fashion that i described. (Here is the result:
).

Good luck!

Awsome bro, that is really tight. It makes me feel like people on this board actually know what they are talking about. Are you signed on with a label any where?? I am very new at all this and have a lot of questions about recording. Would you care if I bugged you every once in a while. I like what you have put together and would love some advice from you. I am currently starting some projects with some friends of mine. I wont be doing any instruments but mainly all the technical side, so I have a lot to learn. Keep up the good work, lets stay in touch. Later.

I am no expert my any means in the recording field, but i am learning new things everyday, so any question you have feel free to fire my way, and i'll do my best to answer them.

And no, my band isn't signed we basically just play for fun.
