OK i need some tips for micing drums with minimal inputs. the mr-8 only records two tracks at a time, but i do have a second mixer. my mic setup is 3 sm-57s and one

sorry i got cut off some how....anyway 3 sm-57s and one beta 52. what is my best option for a good sound...i had read a previous post where someone was talking about chad smith using only 2 mics....any imput is applauded

how big is the kit?
if it is a 5 peice what i used to do back in the day is put the 52 in the kick,a 57 on snare a 57 between toms 1&2 and the last 57 on the floor tom and what you get cymbalwise is what you get given that setup. you will have to experiment a little with it to find the best combo/positioning. mabye consider getting 2 small condensor mics for overheads like the octavia mc012's at around 80 bucks each for overheads. that would be a good start.
you can run the mics through your mixer and onto the 2 tracks(in stereo) of your recorder. keep recording and playing back and tweeking levels and eq as needed till you like what you hear.
another way would be: 52-kick,2 57's-overheads and the last 57 on snare.
good luck.

try one over head and one on the kick you might be suprised how
well that will work.

Go for simple first. You might be suprised how well it turns out.
And listen to it in the mix before you give up on doing it that way.

I'd take the 52 on the kick, a 57 on the snare, and a pair of 57's as overheads. mix to taste, and you're on your way.
