Recording drums with 2 inputs

I am thinking of getting as Event Darla, which has 2 1/4" inputs however I want to have the ability to record drums while having control over individual elements such as kick, snare, etc...

I was thinking of creating a stereo drum mix and sending the Left stereo channel to one input and the Right stereo channel to the other, thus putting them on 2 separate tracks, but this leaves no inputs for individual elements.

I have a 12 channel 8 buss mixer, does anyone know of any tricks\techniques using the mixer to generate a mutliple input mix???

Well, you'll need more inputs on the sound card. Darla wont do. You have an 8 bus mixer, get a 8 in card and you'll be set. Layla, Delta 1010, MOTU... etc...
