Hello peeps.

I am going to record a drummer. His kicks will be triggered, an SM57 put on each tom and one on the snare, and I'll have two condenser overheads for room sound. BUT.....I might want to trigger the snare too, depending on how it sounds acoustically.

Here's the question:

If I trigger the kicks AND the snare, when the toms are mixed in will they sound like they don't belong? You know....like there's a solid kick/snare groove going on with 1/8th noted on the hats, then a fill comes in and....will it sound like someone cut and pasted a shitty tom fill into an otherwise great sounding kit? Lemme know if you guys understand where I'm going with this.....I don't allways make sense....

Thanks!!

it might, but you have to try it out, if you have good overheads and they are in a good room and they sound decent, then it might work out...

Yesterday, just before I left work (where I am when I post on this board) someone posted this response....."you need to pick a snare that is not too processed or it won't match the toms".....was I dreaming that? It's gone now.....WTF??? Anyway, leave it to me to not see the friggin obvious.....

grn - Yeah, The overheads are good. Not stellar, but good. Rented AT4050's. I'm gonna have to just try and see how it goes.

it really just depends on the quality you can get and if the samples sound realistic =\
