recording drums (connection problems)

hi there has anyone tried to record to pc with an alesis DM5? which would eb a better route? dm5 to midi soundcard input on pc or dm5 to mixer then to soundcard?
can anyone tell me the pros and cons of each?
ive also tried to use the sounds from my zoom rt-123 triggerd by the module but to no avail... is it doable? ive read both manuals but still cant get it to work(maybe ive got a faulty midi cable)

There are advantages to recording BOTH the midi and audio stream.

If you record the midi stream, you can always go back and tweak it, or you can use a drum sampler instrument (Gigastudio, vsampler, etc.) to replace the hits with sampled sounds from other drumkits.

If you record audio only, you got only what you got.
